Since its founding in 1999, MICHA has taught thousands of professional actors, directors, choreographers, performers, scholars and teachers from around the world. We hold a two-week intensive study and exchange which includes acting classes, a teacher-training programming and a festival of performances and events.
Our workshops are a great way to connect with the global Chekhov community and to practically explore specific themes related to Chekhov's technique.
We hold regular meetings to discuss and explore topics vital to the international Michael Chekhov community. Some events are members-only.
Scholarships & Internships
A limited number of full scholarships and work-study internships are available for those who might not otherwise be able to attend. For consideration please complete one of our application forms.
Performing the Archive
Through 2021 we will be regularly releasing ninety-second shorts that celebrate the theatre in each and every one of us. The actor IS the theatre. Done in collaboration with the University of Windsor.
MICHA’s Master Classes in the Michael Chekhov Technique DVD series brings the essential elements of Michael Chekhov’s technique to life in a way that is clear, engaging, practical, and dynamic. A training tool for teachers, students, actors, and directors, the series was funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts. It features classes with many of the world’s leading practitioners and teachers. Included in the series is a panel discussion with Michael Chekhov’s students Jack Colvin, Joanna Merlin and Mala Powers.
Psychophysical Anti-Racism Study Group
We believe the tools of Chekhov's technique, built upon openness and artistic freedom, can support the process of manifesting a just world. MICHA facilitates a monthly study group to support the creation of antiracist and inclusive spaces. Each time the group meets, a donation is made to a BIPoC not-for-profit.
Publications for Purchase
In collaboration with the estates of Michael Chekhov and Deirdre Hurst du Prey, MICHA is committed to bringing Chekhov's writings and teachings into print.
Practitioners of Michael Chekhov's technique share stories, struggles, questions and successes about the art they create and how the technique inspires and supports their efforts.
