Andrei Malaev-Babel

is an Associate Professor of Theatre at the FSU/Asolo Conservatory. At the Stanislavsky Theater Studio (STS), where he served as the Producing Artistic Director, he received a Helen Hayes Award nomination for his direction of Dostoyevsky’s The Idiot. He is an author of the Guide to the Psychological Gesture Technique published in Chekhov’s To the Actor (Routledge, 2003). He is an editor of The Vakhtangov Sourcebook – the pioneering collection of Yevgeny Vakhtangov’s theatrical heritage (Routledge, 2011). Mr. Malaev-Babel has received commissions from institutions such as the Smithsonian and The World Bank. He has presented at The Young Vic Company (London, UK), The International Volkov Theatre Festival (Yaroslavl, Russia), St. Petersburg Theatre Academy (St. Petersburg, Russia), The Kennedy Center and The Arena Stage (Washington, DC.) Mr. Malaev-Babel holds an MFA from the Vakhtangov Theatre Institute in Moscow, Russia, where he worked and trained with Alexandra Remizova, Stanislavsky’s student and Vakhtangov’s protégée.
